DataOps Engineer [USD]


The client is a leading property and casualty insurance software and data analytics provider, workingwith some of the world’s largest insurers, brokers, and MGAs, including 15 of the top 25 P&C carriers in the US.


They are currently looking for a DataOps Engineer who will work on their Software as a Service (SaaS) Geospatial Analytics platform, with a focus on geospatial data operations. In this role you will be supporting/partnering with the Data Team, consisting of developers, DataOps engineers, GIS engineers, QA, and domain experts. We are looking for a forward-thinking and passionate DevOps/SysOps engineer who has a love of problem-solving, automation, and is excited to drive innovation within our infrastructure. The entire Geospatial Analytics team is remote and distributed across the world.

Their current stack is AWS underpinning Linux, Apache Spark, Geotrellis, Node, Python, Go, Apache Tomcat, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, GDAL/OGR, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and more. They do not  expect a mastery of our entire tech stack out of the gate, but we do expect you to be comfortable diving in and being eager to learn as our stack evolves.



  • Work extensively with data operations and engineering to understand enterprise processes and models.
  • Control integration quality and develop ways to detect and correct anomalies within data exchange processes
  • Create, maintain, and publish data dictionaries, technical documentation, runbooks, and standards
  • Build and improve data loading pipelines and processes
  • Developer and release support– assisting data and QA engineers in troubleshooting issues with configuration and deployments across environments
  • Data maintenance – installation, configuration, supporting upgrades across varying technologies
  • Automation – script and automate common tasks. Existing automations are in Python, BASH, Ansible, or Go.



  • Upper - Intermediate English
  • 3+ years of work history with hands-on Linux CLI
  • Superb English communication skills with experience effectively communicating in a remote/virtual environment
  • Ability to learn on the job and explore new technologies with little supervision
  • Scripting experience in at least two languages
  • A knack for automating routine tasks
  • Experience supporting production workloads on AWS
  • SQL skills – able to generate and debug queries


Nice to have skills:

  • Experience working in a remote environment
  • Experience with process workflows e.g., Apache Airflow
  • Experience with GIS software e.g., GDAL/OGR, QGIS, or ArcGIS
  • Experience with MongoDB, Elasticsearch or similar technologies
  • Database administration experience (PostgreSQL or MySQL, MS SQL)
  • Literacy with any of: Java, Scala, Go, Python.


Place of work: Worldwide - (UTC -5) Texas City, USA (Time zone overlap requirements 4 hours Daily - 10AM - 12PM)

Contract type: Full time - Contractor

Salary: Up to $2000 - $5000 USD
